UIC GEO is pleased to announce the launch of a new training designed to facilitate the creation of a more democratic culture within our union. While GEO’s executive power rests in the membership vote, it can be difficult to leverage this power when a person is unaware of how to use the union as a political organ.
The union is not a third-party other. It is a dynamic body made up of its members, the graduate workers of UIC. Here you can learn how to influence the direction of the union and its collective decision-making processes. Topics covered include drafting proposals, the basics of Robert’s Rules of Order, the steps needed to change particular policies within the union, its organizational structure, and more.
The in-person session will be held in University Hall 1430 on 9/22 from 12:00-2:00pm. Lunch will be provided. The virtual session will be held 9/24 from 6:30-8:30pm over Zoom.
