As you likely know, we won a 6% raise in the first year of our contract. However, you won’t see the raise right away in this paycheck. Why not?
Although our bargaining team worked hard in August to meet the timeline that HR requested to ensure smooth ratification and implementation, our diligent efforts were not met with similar expediency on administration’s side. The university tried to use the Board of Trustees’ slow ratification of the contract to rob us of the raise on our September paycheck. Of course, this was totally unacceptable, since it would have effectively made our raise only 5.3% for the year.
We stood firm, obtaining an MOU that will ensure we get our full raise as was agreed in the contract. Because of bureaucratic delays, however, we will not see that raise right away. Here is what you can expect in your next four paychecks:
- September 16th – last year’s pay (i.e. 2,688 before tax at 50% FTE)
- October 16th – The new raise (2,850 before tax at 50% FTE)
- November 16th – The new raise, plus your raise from September (2,850 plus 162 before tax, at a 50% FTE)
- December 16th – The new raise (2,850 before tax at 50% FTE)
Rest assured, you will get your September raise—just not until November.
