On Tuesday, we had a short bargaining session. GEO passed Article XXI. Discipline and Dismissal once again, standing firm on our position that GEO should be able to represent RAs in academic discipline as well. Otherwise, we are concerned that an RA whose advisor and supervisor are the same person could pursue academic discipline in order to circumvent the GEO contractual protections. UIC rejected our proposals on a one-time ratification bonus for RAs, CampusCare waiver, and extra personal days for RAs yet again. We are hoping to research more information to show them why these three things are so important for RAs. If you would like to help out, please email us at ra-bargaining-comm@uicgeo.org.
As long as RAs are willing to fight for more, the Bargaining Committee will hold the line and keep advocating. Join us at the next session December 11th at 2-4pm.
