MAY DAY EVENTS: TUESDAY, MAY 1ST

Tuesday, May 1, 11:00 a.m. at the Haymarket Statue, Randolph and Des Plaines, the Illinois Labor History Society will be holding its annual commemoration of the Haymarket martyrs, their fight for the eight-hour day and workers’ rights. Benedicto Martinez Orozco, a leader of the Mexican union federation, Frente Autentico de Trabajo, will preside over mounting a plaque from our Mexican brothers and sisters in the FAT.

Then the big rally and march: March for the 99% – demanding Stop the Attacks on Workers and Unions (see http://www.chicagospring.org/#!/May1), assemble at noon Union Park, 1501 W Randolph St, march to Federal Plaza begins at 1 p.m. followed by a rally there at 3:30 p.m. The GEO along with a large number of area unions have endorsed this march. GEO members will first be at the 11 a.m. Haymarket commemoration then heading over to Union Park for the rally and march.
